OPERATIONS

There are three main enterprises conducted on Nap Nap – sheep breeding and wool growing, cattle breeding and irrigated cropping.

SHEEP

The main sheep enterprise is the breeding of Merino sheep for wool. In an average year, ewes are expected to cut 6-7kg of wool.

Older ewes in their last productive year on the property are joined to White Suffolk rams for production of fat lambs.

The management of pastures and purchase of water licenses for irrigation have improved the carrying capacity in some areas of the property, though on average, the dry country supports 1 dry sheep to every 5 acres. Currently Nap Nap stocks approximately 4000 sheep.

CATTLE

Angus cattle on Nap Nap are run in the river and creek country from where they are mustered in by helicopter, horse and motorbike.

Bulls presently on the property have been sourced from Anvil and Riddellvue studs.

The best female calves are kept for future breeders, and the rest sold to feedlots or re-stockers.

Drought and flood conditions impact stock numbers, however Nap Nap currently carries approximately 1000 head of cattle.

CROPPING
Nap Nap has approximately 200 hectares of irrigated cropping ground.

The water is pumped from the Murrumbidgee River under water licences.

Both summer and winter crops have been grown
in the past but the winter cereals such as wheat and barley are now favoured given the lower water requirements. Nap Nap also produces hay for its own stock.
